Mercutio vs. Tybalt
Tybalt challenged Romeo to a duel out of anger, but Mercutio fights Tybalt first. Romeo tried to stop the fight by standing in between them, but was powerless to stop it. Tybalt reached his sword around Romeo and stabbed Mercutio, which killed him shortly after.

There is chaos in the streets of Verona once again between a Montague and a Capulet. Tybalt goes for a strike. Romeo tries to stop the fighting but sadly he is too late and Mercutio falls.

romeo tries to stop the violence between Mercutio and Tybalt, but he could not stop Tybalt from hurting Mercutio.
Romeo tried his best to overcome the violence. But in his attempted peaceful interference he actually harmed his good friend and allowed for the violence and despair to prevail.

Romeo: Hold, Tybalt! Good Mercutio!
[Tybalt under Romeo's arm thrusts Mercutio in, and flies.] Mercutio: I am hurt. A plague a both houses. I am sped. "O Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio is dead!
